Where do I find more coupons?

Question: How do I find more coupons for the groceries and other things I need?

Answer: Network with friends and relatives to share or trade coupons for things you use. We used to exchange unused coupons with a group of friends every Sunday at church. It was convenient and beneficial because we all used different products.

Visit online coupon sites and even your local grocers' Web sites. Some sites include: coolsavings.com,coupons.comcouponmom.comcouponmountain.comdeallocker.com and smartsource.com.

Just be careful that your pursuit of coupon savings doesn't cause you to spend more money on products you wouldn't normally purchase and more time than you can afford. Coupons are only one of many ways to trim your grocery budget.

I told my friend what your family spends on groceries per month. She is very health conscious and makes great choices for their family when it comes to food. Her motto has always been: Spend more now or pay later (meaning if you don't invest in good food choices, you will pay for it later with health problems). So when I told her what you spend at the store in a month on food she responded with:
"All the things like that I've seen is the family eats mostly all total junk that they get with triple coupons. Unfortunately healthy whole foods tend to cost more than foods that have undergone high processing. Crazy! Just grow a huge garden and you are 1/2 way there tho!"

So is this true..do you normally eat mostly processed foods and junk foods when it comes to shopping at the grocery store?

    Thanks.

      Dear Jessica,
The Economides family does not normally eat mostly processed foods and junk foods.  When they do their monthly shopping, at least 30% is fresh produce to supplement their garden produce and fruit trees.  They eat meat, dairy products, and whole grains.  They have a wonderful issue from September of 08 about organic produce. All back issue topics can be looked up on their website and ordered for $2. Annette cooks mostly from scratch.  The foods they do eat that your friend would probably consider highly processed would be items such as salad dressings, canned tomato paste/sauce, milk/dairy, and the occasional "fun" treat of a box of crackers or something.  The Economides family is very health conscious, using natural supplements and herbs, good food and exercise for their well being.  However, that being said, they are not going to sacrifice their budget and financial goals just to eat all organic/unprocessed meats, dairy, produce, etc.  They have a healthy balance for their budget.

Do you get the majority of your coupons from the newspaper? Do you think it is worth buying the newspaper? Do you have any suggestions on getting the paper at a discount besides sharing/getting leftovers from a friend?

    Thanks

We get our coupons from the newspaper and mailings.  For our family, it has been worth purchasing the Sunday edition.  We research and wait for a special to come along and then subscribe for the duration of that special.  We then use the coupons we want and swap the others with a network of couponing friends.
